1892年 生於江蘇淮陰，祖籍浙江蘭谿。
1904年 赴上海求學，就讀於私立「南洋中學」預科班，受到國畫老師李靖瀾的啟蒙接觸攝影。
1919年 成立「靜山廣告社」。
1924年 「藝術寫真研究會」，更名為「光社」，並於北京中央公園作第一次公開展覽，此為最早研究攝影的團體。
1925年 創辦「中國攝影學會」。
1927年 初識張大千之二兄張善孖，成為至交，後亦與大千交好，以攝影參加上海美術家組成的「第八次天馬會」藝術展覽。
1928年 邀集胡伯翔、黃堅、陳萬里等同好，在上海成立了攝影團體「華社」（中華攝影學社）。擔任上海《時報》攝影記者。
1931年 首次個展於上海《時報》。作品〈柳溪弄艇〉，入選「日本第五次國際沙龍寫真」。自此後，開始參加國際沙龍展。於自家二樓成立「靜山攝影室」。
1937~89年 間於世界各國主要城市個人展： 比利時、美國、香港、澳門、日本、印尼、法國、泰國、羅馬、巴西、韓國、 澳洲等國之各大城市。
1948年 任「上海攝影學會」及「中國攝影學會」理事長。
1949年 隨政府遷台。
1953年 「中國攝影學會」於台北復會。
1962年 赴雅典參加國際攝影藝術聯盟（FIAP）第七屆國際會議，獲頒贈名譽高級會士榮銜（HON. E. FIAP）。會後遍訪法、德、瑞等國。
1963年 策畫舉辦了第一屆國際影展，由「中國攝影學會」與「國立歷史博物館」聯合舉辦，此後每年固定展出一次，未曾中 斷。應巴黎CIP及瑞士紐賽塔爾（NEUCHATEL）博物館之邀赴歐展出，此為中國攝影首度在西歐展出。首度赴巴西張 大千的八德園拍照。
1966年 發起「亞洲影藝協會」（FAPA）擔任榮譽會長。
1968~77年 於 「中國文化大學」任教
1972年 將一千多本藏書和珍貴作品贈送「文化大學」，至今仍保存於「文化大學」博物館。
1981年 捐贈作品予法國國家圖書館版畫攝影部，並舉行個展。
1986年 《郎靜山藝術作品展覽》上海美術館
1989年 《郎靜山九七回顧展》台北市立美術館
1990年 《郎靜山百齡回顧展》國立歷史博物館
1995年 逝世於台北，享年一百零五歲。
1999 年《中國人文精神的延續者─郎靜山先生回顧展》台灣國際視覺藝術中心
